Railtours to Provisionally Resume in July (12.06.20)

West Coast Railways has announced that its regular steam hauled 'Jacobite' service from Fort William to Mallaig is to provisionally start on Friday 17th July. This follows the Scottish Government announcement on 10th June that it intends to lift restrictions on leisure and tourism in July. Saphos Tours and sister company Statesman Rail have also stated their aim to resume tours if government advice allows. 'The Fellsman' is due to run on Wednesday 15th July from Crewe to Carlisle, and Statesman Rail's 'English Riviera Statesman' is due to run on Saturday 18th July. The operators have announced that the total number of passengers on each train will be reduced by around 40% and clear perspex screens fitted between seats. A maximum of 4 passengers will be allocated seats across each bay of 6.
Additional measures will be implemented throughout the journey to ensure an enhanced level of housekeeping in the lavatories and in the actual carriages. Handles and doors will be regularly cleaned and hand sanitisers will be available for use by passengers at each entrance doorway.
