Grand Central Axes Blackpool Service (11.09.20)

Train operator Grand Central has announced it has cancelled plans to launch a new London Euston to Blackpool North service due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The service was due to start in the spring of 2020 with a pool of five dedicated DB class 90 locomotives and refurbished and repainted ex LNER Mk4 stock. Indeed three DB class 90s and two Mk4 sets have already been repainted in Grand Central livery. But with vastly reduced passenger numbers, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, Grand Central cannot now make a business case for launching the new service and has cancelled its launch.
Grand Central as an Open Access train operator will now concentrate on its two existing routes.
