East Coast Main Line train operator, LNER, has announced it has extended the lease of its IC225 sets and class 91 electric locomotives until at least the summer of 2023. Seven IC225 sets will be retained to supplement the Azuma trains that are being introduced by LNER.

The ten class 91 locomotives that are expected to be retained by LNER are:

91107 Skyfall
91109 Sir Bobby Robson
91110 Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
91111 For the Fallen
91114
91119 Bounds Green Intercity Depot 1997-2017
91124
91127
91130 Lord Mayor of Newcastle

It is possible that a further extension until the summer of 2024 may be agreed, if LNER need to retain the IC225 sets beyond 2023.
